What is teen counseling?
Teen counseling is a form of psychological support specifically designed to address the unique challenges of adolescence. Working with a psychologist who specialises in this age group, teenagers have the opportunity to explore their feelings, understand their reactions and develop the skills needed to navigate this complex stage of life.
I use approaches adapted for young people: creative techniques, narrative methods and cognitive-behavioral tools, always respecting the teenager's rhythm and autonomy.
When can teen counseling help?
Teen counseling is beneficial when the young person faces:
- Academic difficulties — underachievement, school anxiety, lack of motivation
- Identity issues — confusion about self, values, future
- Social difficulties — social anxiety, conflict with peers, bullying
- Family tensions — communication with parents, family changes
- Anxiety and depression — sadness, excessive worrying, emotional isolation
- Behavioural changes — aggressiveness, withdrawal, risky behaviour
- Life transitions — school changes, first relationships, career decisions
How do teen sessions work?
The first session includes a brief meeting with the parents (or guardians) to understand the context, followed by a conversation with the teenager alone. Confidentiality — with limited exceptions for safety — is clearly communicated from the start.
Sessions last 50 minutes and take place weekly. The approach is flexible and adapted to the teenager's personality and communication style. Parents receive general feedback on progress without details that would break confidentiality.
